Baggage information
The following baggage rules apply only when traveling on flights operated by Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. If your itinerary includes travel on another airline, please check the other airline's Web site for their specific baggage rules.
Carry-On Allowance:
Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:
Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 10" H x 17" W x 24" L (25 x 43 x 61 cm) including wheels and handles.
Items exceeding the free carry-on allowance will be charged $25 per piece and tagged for delivery to baggage claim at the customer's destination.
Keys, medication, and travel documents should always be packed in your carry-on baggage.
Checked Baggage
Passengers who purchased their tickets after May 1, 2009
No free baggage allowance
Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
Maximum Weight: 50 lb/23 kg
Baggage Fees: $20 one-way charge for each of the first three checked bags.
Passengers who purchased their tickets prior to May 1, 2009
Baggage Allowance: 1 piece*

Baggage Fees:One-way charges will remain $15 for the first bag, and $25 for the second bag.
Exceptions to the baggage fees
- First class passengers may check 2 bags free of charge, 3rd bag $20, 4th or more each $50
- MVP Gold Mileage Plan members may check 2 bags free of charge, 3rd bag $20, 4th or more each $50
- Strollers, car seats, and disabled customers' assistive devices do not count towards checked baggage allowance and may be checked without charge.
- Military personnel on active duty are allowed to check 3 duffel bags up to 70 pounds per bag and up to 115 linear inches free of charge.
- Passengers making international connections to other airlines may follow the weight restrictions of the international airline, which may allow for heavier bags than the Alaska Airlines free allowance.
- Passengers traveling solely within the state of Alaska may check 3 bags free of charge.
- Customers traveling to or from Guadalajara or Mexico City may check 2 bags free of charge, 3rd bag $20, 4th or more each $50
Overweight Baggage Fees
Fee for any bag weighing 51-100 lb: $50
Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted. If a bag is both overweight and oversize, the higher fee will apply.
Oversize Baggage Fees
Fee for any bag between 63-80 in: $50
Fee for any bag between 80-115 in: $75
Bags with overall dimensions that exceed 115 inches will not be accepted. If a bag is both overweight and oversize, the higher fee will apply.

Pets` information
Pets in the Cabin
Pets that meet the following qualifications can travel in the passenger cabin:
- Only domesticated dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and fish are allowed.
- Dogs and cats are at least 8 weeks old and have been weaned for at least 5 days before departure.
- The kennel is specifically made for animal carriage.
- Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel, under the seat for the entire flight.
- You may travel with a maximum of two carry-on kennels/containers in the main cabin, only when the adjacent seat is purchased by you.
Carrier size must be:
Hard-sided Cabin with dimensions (height x width x depth) 50 7.5" x 12" x 17"
Soft-sided Cabin with dimensions (height x width x depth) 50 10" x 12" x 17"
Pets in the Baggage and Cargo Compartments
Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air accept most small domesticated pets. Other pets may be accepted with approval. Pets that may travel in the climate-controlled baggage and cargo compartments include: cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, household birds, non-poisonous reptiles, pot bellied pigs, rabbits, and tropical fish. Dogs and cats must be at least eight weeks old and must have been fully weaned for at least five days prior to travel.
The health of your pet is important. Due to health risks, brachycephalic (shortnose) dogs/cats are only accepted for travel at owner's risk and excess valuation is not available.
The following is a list of the affected breeds:
Dogs: American Pit Bull, American Staffordshire, Boston Terrier, Brussels Griffin, Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Chow Chow, Dutch Pug, English Bulldog, English Toy Spaniel, French Bulldog, Japanese Boxer, Japanese Spaniel, Pekinese Pug, Shih Tzu, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Terrier, Bulldog, Pug, Boxer.
Cats: Burmese, Exotic, Himalayan, Persian.

Health and Vaccination Requirements
All pets crossing state borders, with the exception of guide dogs, are required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to have a valid health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of travel. If an animal is being transported by a breeder, dealer, or research facility, then the health certificate must have been issued within 10 days. All animals crossing state borders to a cold weather destination are required to have a veterinarian's note on the health certificate that they are acclimated to temperatures below 45° F. It is the responsibility of the customer to obtain this certification.
Proof of rabies vaccination is required for animals traveling within the state of Alaska or when traveling across state lines. Proof of Parvo Virus vaccination is required before an animal can be transported to Nome or Kotzebue. Service animals traveling with a passenger are exempt from these certifications, though they are required to be in a working harness that identifies them as a service animal.

Fees indicated are for travel on Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, Pen Air and ERA Aviation. If your itinerary includes travel on another airline, the other airline fee may be assessed.
