Baggage information

Depending on the route, luggage is measured in two ways: by weight and by piece. Luggage is measured by piece for all domestic (within Mexico)and international flights operated by Mexicana Group, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink.

Carry on luggage
For carry-on luggage to be taken inside the passenger cabin, products such as: bottled or canned beverages, shampoo, hair gel or spray, lotions, toothpaste, suntan lotion, liquid cosmetics, creams, aerosols, or any substance or product with a similar consistency, contained in packages of up to 100 ml (3.4 oz), must be packed in a transparent plastic bag with a capacity of up to one quart (1 liter) or (8 X 7.5 in.).

In addition to those mentioned above, items that may be taken in carry-on luggage include: baby formula or mother’s milk, juices for babies, only if the infants are traveling; liquids, gels, and aerosols purchased in the secure area; prescription medications, as well as insulin and other over-the-counter medications not exceeding 100 ml (3.4 oz.) per container, including saline solution and eye care products; liquids, gels or aerosols for diabetics who document their medical condition, in quantities not exceeding 100 ml (3.4oz.); solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick, solid deodorant, and other similar solids. Items purchased in duty free shops may also be carried on board; they must be delivered to the passengers at the gate of the aircraft.

For connecting flights from the United States or Canada to other destinations, the items purchased in duty free must be placed in the checked luggage in order to prevent them from being seized at the security checkpoints for the connection.

Children information

Do I have to pay for an infant ?

A child under 2 years of age is considered an infant. Infants do not require to have a seat but must pay the following fares/charges and taxes:
- Within Mexico there is a fee of $150.00MXN per segment, plus taxes and other applicable fees.

- Between Canada/South America and Mexico, the infant’s fee is $45.00 USD plus taxes.
- Between the U.S. and Mexico, the infant’s fee is $30.00 USD plus taxes.
- Between Mexico/South America and Mexico, the infant’s fee is 10% from an adult’s fare.
If an infant requires an individual seat, he/she would pay:

The current full fare plus the route discount if applicable.
If two infants are traveling with an adult, the second infant has to pay the full fare, with the route discount if applicable.

In case the infant’s age changes during the flight, there will not be any additional charges.
The restrictions of the infant’s seat and luggage are valid until the end of the trip.
Infants without a seat have the right to the following luggage allowance:

On International Flights:
Documented Luggage: 1 piece with a maximum weight of 20kg (or 44 lbs).
Carry-on luggage: 1 piece + a stroller or a car seat.
On Domestic flights within Mexico:
Documented Luggage: 1 piece with a maximum weight of 10kg (or 22 lbs).
Carry-on luggage: 1 piece + a stroller or a car seat.
Infants with a seat have the right to the luggage allowance of a regular passenger

Pets` information

It is not allowed to transport a pet in the passenger cabin in all Mexicana Group flights. All pets can only be transported under AVIH conditions and requirements.

Pet transportation details

- Under the Animal Welfare Act, APHIS regulates the air transport of dogs and cats. The AWA provides regulatory guidelines to assure humane travel standards for pets. Travelers need to know the following criteria before traveling with an airline:
- Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned.
- Kennels must meet minimum standards for size, strength, sanitation and ventilation.
- Kennels must be enclosed and allow room for the animal to stand, sit, breathe and rest comfortably.
- Kennels must have a solid, leak-proof floor covered with litter or absorbent lining.
- Kennels must have ventilated openings making up 14 percent of total wall space.
- Kennels must have grips or handles for lifting to facilitate handling by cargo workers.
- Each species must have its own kennel with the exception of compatible personal pets of similar size. Maximum numbers include two puppies or kittens less than 6 months old.
- Airlines require attached instructions to the kennel for feeding, watering and administering medication for any animal when traveling time is over 24 hours.
- Airlines and state health officials generally require health certificates for all animals transported by air. A licensed veterinarian who examined the animal within 10 days of transport must issue health certificates.
- Pet cats and dogs are subject to inspection at points of entry for evidence of infectious diseases transmittable to humans. Dogs must have an unexpired certificate showing vaccination against rabies at least 30 days prior to entry into the United States. Pet cats do not require a rabies vaccination.
- The owner must travel on same flight with the pet and must provide a leakproof kennel for air transportation. The maximum size for a kennel to fit under the seat is (30cm width, 40cm lenght and 18cm hight), for flights F-100 the dimentions will be (30cm width, 50cm lenght and 37cm hight)Any kennel larger than this will have to be checked-in to be placed in the baggage cabin and must have a maximum size (65 cm. width by 1.10m length and 75cm hight.). Maximum weight for (PETCs & kennel ) will be 10Kg (22lb) and for (AVIH + kennel) 45kg (100lb)
- Note: There is a maximum of 1 AVIH pets per person permitted on flights (A-318,A-319, A-320, B767 and F-100 ). All pets must be transported according to the mentioned regulations.

The fee for transporting pets depend on the type of flight:

Within the Mexican Republic - Pets (only in cargo comparment) 45.00 USD plus tax
Flights To / from USA or Canada - Pets (only in cargo comparment) 90.00 USD plus tax
Flights  To / from Madrid or Latin America - Pets (only in cargo comparment) 120.00 USD plus tax
Flights with other airlines  - you have to check amounts and transportation policies on other airlines
