Baggage information
The policy of hand luggage and checked luggage depends on the airline operating your flight. It might occur that some companies, which are associated with Spanair, use other prices than the ones published at Spanair. Before leaving, please contact your travel agent or the airline operating your flight to get more details about their luggage policy.
Domestic and international flights operated by Spanair have a maximum free luggage allowance that varies depending on your class. Some international destinations limit your free luggage allowance by weight or by number of pieces. This will always be indicated on the ticket. Regardless of the allowance, the maximum weight allowed for any single checked bag is 32 kg and no single bag should exceed this weight. If one single bag weighs more than 32 kg it will need to be sent as cargo or the content will have to be shared out into one or two bags weighing less than this limit.

If your journey includes a connection and you have purchased tickets separately from different airlines, the luggage allowance per individual journey will be in accordance with the regulations of each carrier. If you have a single connecting ticket the allowance will be that agreed between both companies and appearing on your ticket. Generally, on international flights the luggage allowance will be that of the company operating the longer leg and on domestic flights the airline operating the first leg.

Pets` information
Pet carriers can be booked up to 48 hours prior to the flight's departure on the mainland, 72 hours on the Balearic Islands and 69 hours on the Canary Islands. Only a limited number of animals will be permitted on board depending on the type of aircraft. Due to government regulations, pets are currently not accepted on Spanair`s flights to or via the UK.
Pets in the cabin: Your pet must travel in a waterproof pouch/carrier suitable for air travel. The pet and container together must not weigh more than 6 kg and the dimensions of the container must not exceed 50x40x25 cm. This rule does not apply to guide dogs.
Pets In the hold: Your pet must travel in an approved metal or plastic container (cage/pet carrier) that is well-ventilated and large enough for the animal can stand, but without allowing it to stick its head out. Please note that the carrier measurements must not exceed 125x65x85 cm.
Your pet must be correctly identified and have a valid vaccination record.
You must bring:
- All the required information on the health of the animal, including the vaccination record.
- The animal must be identifiable by means of an electronic chip or a readable tattoo.
- If you are travelling within the EU, you must have a European passport issued by a veterinarian designated by the competent authority containing the relative vaccination details and the medical history of the animal. It must also contain details of a valid rabies vaccination. For this reason pets under three months old cannot travel to other EU countries. Be aware that a number of EU countries require animals to have been treated for parasites and ticks. Generally, for international flights you must take into account the specific requirements each country may request to allow pets to enter. We recommend that you consult a veterinarian and the consulate of the destination country for the rules concerning required health certificates and customs regulations.
According to the flight duration, we recommend that you do not to give your pet food or water for 4 hours before short flights (2-4 hours) and 8 hours before long flights (5-9 hours). This prevents the animal needing to pass stools or vomit from sickness inside the carrier and experience discomfort during the rest of the journey.
Contact the Spanair Cargo department regarding carriage of any animal other than a dog or cat.
