The Bern-Belp Airport serves the Switzerland’s capital city of Bern. The airport is located near the town of Belp and sometimes is mentioned as Belp Airport. It is located 9 km southeast of Bern. It is operating since 1929. During the last years it is quickly developing. The airport authorities plan to turn the facility into one of the best airports in Europe.

The Bern-Belp Airport is a small airport with regional significance. Air France and Cirrus Airlines offer scheduled flights to Bern. Darwin Airline, Flybe, Helvetic Airways, Intersky and Sky Work Airlines offer seasonal flights to Bern. Most of the flights are from/to France, Germany and Italy.

The airport has only one terminal that can handle 300 passengers per hour. It also has 5 check-in desks, 2 ticketing desks, a valet parking service, a car hire desk, a kiosk, a café/bar landside and another airside, a duty-free shop and 3 gates. Bus services run between the airport and Bern main railway station, and to and from Belp. The airport also has a 10-vehicle taxi rank and 8 parking spaces for buses, and is equipped with 15 aircraft stands. It can handle 20 IFR flight movements. The North Terminal of the airport houses the head offices of Heliswiss and Sky Work Airlines.

The Biderhangar, one of the airport’s hangars built by Oscar Bider, was listed as a cultural heritage in 2008. The airport authorities offer to the passengers a touristic tour of the airport, that includes the Biderhangar.

The future renovations include plans for building new tower, new taxiways and parkings, and terminal for Schengen arrivals. There will be new facility for private aviation. The renovation works should be finished until 2015.

The airport is connected with the city via two bus lines. One of them goes to the Bern Railway Station.
