International airports in Switzerland

Switzerland is a well-known tourist resort and popular destination. Although the small size of the country, there is a highly developed air transport system. There are two main airports in Switzerland - Zürich Airport and Geneva International Airport. Fast developing are the EuroAirport serving Basel, Bern-Belp and Lugano Airport.

Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport is also known as Kloten Airport. It’s the major international airport in the country. Swiss International Air Lines has its hub at the airport. In 2003 it underwent major reconstruction. It handles more than 20 million passengers a year. There is a railway station under the facility of the airport. The EuroCity rail link the airport with Munich, Berlin and Milan.

Geneva International Airport
Geneva International Airport or Cointrin Airport serves the city of Geneva. It is located 4 km outside if the city center. It is really close to the Swiss-French border. In 2010 the airport served more than 11 million passengers. The airport is linked with the city via train and bus.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg
EuroAirport is an international airport located 6 km outside of Basel, 70 km south of Freiburg in Germany and 22 km southeast of Mulhouse in France. it is located in France, but serves both the three cities. EuroAirport serves more than 5 million passengers per year. It is operated jointly by France and Switzerland. It operates since 1946.

Bern-Belp Airport
Bern-Belp Airport is the airport serving the capital of Switzerland – Bern. It is located in the town of Belp. The airport has two terminals. It is linked with Bern via two separate bus lines. There is also bus to the local railway station.

Lugano Airport
Lugano Airport is located 4 km west of Lugano near the village Agno. Currently there is new terminal still in construction at the airport. It is one of the quickly expanding airports in Switzerland.
