Latvia is a small country situated in Northern Europe on the shore of the Baltic Sea. It is known as “the Pearl of the Baltic“, because of its beautiful architecture and rich culture. Latvia is unique with its mixture of the western and the eastern history and traditions that formed its modern shape.

When you visit Latvia, the first thing you notice is how compact this country is. With area mostly covered by natural unspoilt forests, it is easy to travel from the one end of the country to the other for less than a day.

This doesn’t mean that you’ll have a rapid walk. There is plenty to see and do in Latvia. One of the best thing of the country is that there are no crowded tourist destinations, waiting, big hotels and loud summers. Latvia is a place where you can choose your type of vacation. If you want, you can visit the capital city of Riga or the beach of Jurmala – one of the longest sand beaches in Europe and mix with the local people, or you can relax in the quiet countryside all by yourself. Visit some of the historical places like the Āraiši Castle Lake Museum or the ruins of the Rezekne castle. Learn something about the history of Latvia – full of twists and dramatic moments. Stroll along the deserted beach of the Baltic Sea or take a walk in the Gauja National Park.

If you prepare your vacations carefully, you certainly will want to see the Old Town of Riga, famous with its 13th-18th century fortifications, the Riga Castle and its teutonic and hanseatic heritage. Riga is small beautiful city that preserved its old look. But don’t forget to travel around a bit more – go to Ventspils, Kuldiga, Cēsis and Liepāja. These small towns have their own unique charm.

Latvia isn’t big tourist destination and the branch is still developing. The best time to visit the country is during the summer. The winters in Latvia are clod and there are no winter resorts to visit. The country is easily reached by boat or by plain.
