Krakow Aquarium

09/06/2016

Located just around the corner from Wawel at 9 Sebastiana Street is Krakow’s Aquarium and Natural History Museum. The aquarium – Poland’s largest – occupies 1600 square metres and contains lizards, frogs, turtles and snakes in addition to numerous marine and freshwater fish. Children are especially well catered for here with touch-screen info stations, educational programs and a “Discovery Room” where they can touch various marine creatures.

Among the diversity of creatures presented here is an almost perfectly preserved (and unique) woolly rhinoceros from the Pleistocene era – a species extinguished during the last Ice Ages. There is also a pair of extremely rare tiny cottontop tamarin monkeys. In addition there is the only live venomous reptile exhibit in Poland, with rattlesnakes, vipers, Mexican beaded lizards, poison arrow dart frogs and mangrove snakes.
A special attraction for children is the free weekend “Kids Club At The Aquarium”, which takes place every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm and features professional teachers and animators who lead children in educational games and other activities such as face painting, making balloon animals and arts and crafts. During the summer months these activities expand to include handling selected animals and other hands-on learning exercises.

The aquarium is also available for hire for children’s birthday parties, with themes for different age groups, guides/teachers and birthday cake, snacks and beverages provided.
The aquarium has full wheelchair access and is open from 9 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday and from 9 am to 9 pm Saturday and Sunday. There is also an air-conditioned conference room for hire with a capacity of up to 100 people and equipped with a projection screen, 42” plasma screen, wi-fi internet and flip charts.
