Simferopol International Airport

Simferopol International is airport in Simferopol, Ukraine. It was built in 1936. On January 21 1936, the Council of People's Commissars of the Crimean ASSR adopted a decree on allocation of land and beginning construction of an airport in Simferopol and opening a Simferopol - Moscow airline since 01.05.1936. In the pre-war years, the flights were performed to Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities of Ukraine.

Po-2 airplane crews performed successful flights to aid agricultural companies to grow good cereals and grape harvest. The head of the airport was Ilya Andreyevich Chibisov at that time. The Simferopol airport was the bases to form up a Special Black Sea Air Squad of Civil Air Fleet during the first days of the Great Patriotic War, which took active part in the military operations in various frontlines, and in 1944 it directly participated in liberation of the hero city of Sevastopol.


There are charter and regular flights from the "Simferopol" Airport to more than 70 cities of Ukraine, CIS, and other countries. The airport is connected by regular flights with cities of Ukraine and airports of such cities as: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Minsk, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yerevan, Tashkent, Samara, Kiev, Novosibirsk, Ufa, Khabarovsk, Kazan, Murmansk, Vilnius, Lvov, Donetsk and other cities of the CIS, cities of other countries: Frankfurt-on-Maine, Tel-Aviv, Istanbul, Berlin, Warsaw, Stuttgart, Hanover, Munich.

The name of Simferopol airport can be found on all the air traffic charts and maps, as it is an integral part of the global air traffic system.


Today’s OAO International Airport Simferopol can offer a broad range of services which provide for the comfort of the air travellers’ stay at the airport.


The international airport status implies an ever-continuing improvement of services offered. Enhancement of air transport reliability and improving the air travellers’ service are the focal point of the work conducted. A number of auxiliary businesses have been created to assist in bringing offered services to a higher level.


In 2008, OAO International Airport Simferopol was awarded a Letter of Commendation by the Airport GA Association and was at the top of the “Intensively Developing Airport of the CIS countries” nomination.


At time of check-in, carriers may be alerted by the special purpose code (SP) on the passenger ticket and shall verify that all local provisions required for the assistance and carriage of the incapacitated passengers and passengers with reduced mobility have been made available. Airport authority shall endeavour to make arrangements to fulfill them without delaying the flight.


When time and circumstances do not permit this to be done, passengers may be permitted to travel if in the opinion of passenger and carrier, the passenger is able to adequately care for the himself/herself during the flight.


Trolleybus # 9 (the route is 28 minutes long, departing every 10-15 minutes) or minibus (the route is 15 minute long, departing every 10-20 minutes) going to the train station. There is a "Kurortnaya" motor bus station and "Krimtrolleybus" interurban station there.
