Travel Belgium

03/20/2010

There's just something about Belgium. Maybe it's the friendly and welcoming people. Maybe it's stunning architecture lining the cobble stoned streets, or perhaps the choice of over 450 types of beer or the smell of chocolate. Belgium has something for everyone: culture, romance, adventure and shopping. Energetic and carefree visitors will feel their worries fall by  the wayside as they take in the views of the flower carpet on display Aug 13-15, 2010, in the Grand Place in Brussels while sitting in one of the many cafes.

Located just 85 minutes from Paris, 1h51 minutes from London and 2 hours from Amsterdam by car or train, Brussels encompasses all that Europe has to offer. Belgium is multicultural and multilingual, with English being widely spoken. Visitors can easily take a train to one of the neighboring cities like Namur or the new train station in Liege designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava for a day trip outside the bustling capital.
The historical city of Brussels is one of the world's greatest cosmopolitan capitals, and offers 80 museums, seasonal markets, jazz festivals and a happening nightlife. Belgium welcomes the new opening of the new Magritte Museum in Brussels, Herge Museum, dedicated to the creator of the cartoon Tintin, located just outside the city and the reopening of the Grand Curtius in Liege, home to the archaelogy and art museums, as well as the weaponry and glass museums.

Beyond Brussels is a world of castles, stone build villages and affordable restaurants that can be visited by coach, train or renting a car.

June 18-20, 2010, Waterloo will remember the 195th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo with a weekend of festivities ending with a reenactment of Napoleon's defeat. History buffs should be sure to visit Bastogne and the world War II memorial commemorating the Buttle of the Bulge. Wherever your travels may lead, there is sure to be something to fit every taste, style and interest imaginable.
