Travel to Lithuania

10/26/2016

Lithuania was a secret for the tourists just a few years ago. It is true that if you want a traditional summer vacation, this is not the best place to visit. Placed in the northeast corner of Europe, Lithuania still can surprise you. The country’s main treasure is its beautiful and unviolated nature. This is the land where deep old forests meet the raw Baltic Sea in the north.

Lithuania and basically the countries of the Baltic were always the underdogs of history. Located far in the north in the periphery of the great European states, Lithuania was center of clashes and furious battles since the early medieval centuries. The country’s strong pagan roots and independent spirit led it to domination over the large region between the Baltic and the Black Sea for nearly 200 years, followed by the Teutonic crusades and the Polish dominance. During the last 500 years Lithuania was divided between Poland, Prussia, Russia several times. Finally, in 1918 the country gained its independence, but it was until the soviet reign. Finally, in 1990 the country was once again independent. Since then Lithuania progresses - the country joined EU in 2004 and adopted the euro in 2006.

The country’s history is dynamic and full of turns and that is easily remarkable if you visit Lithuania. It adds flavor to the sights and makes the country even more exotic to the ordinary visitor. But if you want to have an overall picture of Lithuania, you must travel outside the capital of Vilnius a bit more. Go to the Curonian Spit National Park, the sea port of Klaipeda, the medieval sight of Trakai with its Historical national park and the tourist center of Palanga. Lithuania is small country and travelling around is easy and fun.

Still its main attraction is the capital city of Vilnius and its Old Town district full of historical sights. This is the only place where bohemian spirit mixes with post-communist memories on the background of the remarkable baroque architecture.

Visiting Lithuania is easy. You can go there by car, boat or by airplane. Most of the visitors prefer to take the plane. Lots of companies offer cheap flight deals to Vilnius or Kaunas. But for the best flight deals check outhttp://www.paylessflights.com
