Australia Big Bold and Beautiful

11/06/2016

Australia, describing it is hard to know where to begin !. In some ways, it is a bit like the States, a new country, large and varied from the moderate climate of New South Wales to the Tropics of Darwin and Queensland. Australia offers a cornucopia of delights for all types of traveler.

Australia is a land of beauty and adventure. There are many and varied reasons why it finds itself touted as one of the ultimate travel getaways; it is larger than life, landscapes to die for and amounts of sunshine that would make many countries jealous. And if beaches, rainforest, and outback aren’t enough, then its major cities are outstanding destinations in their own right.

Take Sydney and Melbourne for example; Melbourne is like the snooty relative older, wiser and classy whereas Sydney is young, pushy and vibrant. They are such rivals that Canberra had to be chosen as the capital city !.
In many ways, the country is a land of contrasts. The fiery atmosphere of an Aussie Rules Football match in Melbourne or a trip to the races for the prestigious Melbourne Cup and the champagne glitz of Sydney Harbour and its world famous Opera House belong to a different world when compared to the serenity of the  Centre or the surfer's paradise of the coast.
Thousands of years of Aboriginal culture co-exist with the 'blokeish' BBQ culture of the Suburbs. Australia is one big amazing jigsaw puzzle.

'Spoilt for choice' is certainly a description that sums up Australia. There are well-traveled paths, with Sydney, Melbourne, and the east coast being a particular magnet, although when you are faced with a country of this enormity, possible choices are numberless. The Great Barrier Reef (a world heritage site) ?, Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock ) ?. Australia is not one country, it is many.

Australia may have it's cliche's (from cork hats, barbecues, and koalas to crocodiles, cricketers, and bush tucker).  But it also offers up the unexpected; the dusty open road that unfurls to reveal luscious green hills; the ice cold beer at an outback pub; the walk to the beach that leads you stumbling upon a street concert and the stunning party atmosphere of Bondi Beach.

A trip Down Under has long been synonymous with escape, exploration, and adventure – an image that's unlikely to change anytime soon. Some destinations are styled 'The Next Big Thing', but Australia is always on the Travelers agenda.
