ABOUT STOCKHOLM ARLANDA AIRPORT

It is the largest airport in Sweden (and third largest in Scandinavia) handling 25 million passengers in 2015. There is the second airport, of size, in the area (Stockholm-Bromma) but that is only suitable for smaller aircraft, only a small number of international flights operate from here.

92 Airlines operate from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, providing non-stop flights to 175 destination.Stockholm Arlanda is a significant hub for Norwegian and Scandinavian Airlines.

Opened to civilian traffic in 1962, it was not until the 1970's that the airport started to expand rapidly; with Scandinavian flying 747 jumbos to New York, and charters to the Canary Islands.A third runway was opened in 2003. Domestic flights operate from Terminals 3 & 4 and International flights from Terminals 2 and 5. A new pier has been added to Terminal 5 to accommodate larger aircraft. A new central building connects both.

Significant increases in passenger traffic are expected, especially because of the presence of Norwegian Airlines at the airport (Norwegian has expanded enormously both in Europe and as a significant new force in transatlantic aviation). The state of the art airport is ready to handle the Airbus A380 (currently the largest airliner in the world).
