Tel Aviv: a new destination hotspot ?.

TEL AVIV: A NEW DESTINATION HOTSPOT ?.

This week Milan Bergamo airport was happy to announce a new route to Tel Aviv. The airline partner for this venture is Israeli company Arkia. Milan has proved very popular with Israel tourists, not just for Milan's attractions, but also due to its proximity to Pisa, Florence, Venice and the other wonders of North Italy. But while Italy has its fair share of Beaches they can get very crowded in the summer and Italy can be an expensive country, so Israel has a lot to offer to Italian tourists. Not forgetting the many religious and historical sites of Israel.

This is not the first time that Tel Aviv has featured in reports of new routes in recent days. Miami airport management is in discussions with authorities in Tel Aviv about new routes between the two cities.

By a strange coincidence, Tel Aviv has been called the 'Miami of the Middle East.' Turkish, Air Europa and Air Canada are among the airlines currently flying there, but not all directly.El Al stopped the Miami service in 2008 because of rising oil prices (the Washington D.C. service ceased at around the same time). Now both are to be relaunched.

There is a particular demand for flights to Israel from Miami because of the large Jewish community, and from Washington D.C. because of diplomatic and business connections. About 250 people a day fly from Miami to Tel Aviv. The traffic through Washington is anticipated to be even bigger. In addition Air Canada is about to launch a new service from Montreal to Tel Aviv and add extra services from Toronto.

SO WHY TEL AVIV, YOU MAY ASK ?

While Jerusalem is viewed by many people as the Israeli capital, most do not as Jerusalem is a divided city, due to the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict. Consequently, Tel Aviv has become the de facto capital for business and many foreign embassies. Therefore it is a business center and a political one.

However, you do not get the title 'Miami of the East' for reasons as stuffy as that !.Tel Aviv is located on the coast, and coupled with the warm Mediterranean climate; it offers a great vacation experience. It is probably a bit astounding for people to think of holidaying in the Middle East, but Israel and the Lebanon have been major tourist destinations (Beirut was called the 'Paris of the East').

While Lebanon faded from the map due to the outbreak of civil war in the 1970's, Israel never really went away. With the near collapse of tourism in Egypt and Tunisia because of terrorist incidents, Israel and other nearby destinations such as Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria are starting to look very attractive.

Tel Aviv may only be an hours drive from Jerusalem, but culturally it is a world away. Certainly, it is very safe. There are miles of sandy beaches and a world class nightlife and restaurant scene. National Geographic rated it 9th best beach city.Indeed the city center and the beaches are so close together that they almost fuse into one.The vast stretch of the beaches means you can get an enormous variety of service; from trendy areas to those for everyday folk who just want to sunbathe.

For the cultured, there are many galleries and over 3,000 examples of the Bauhaus style of architecture (since it was developed by German-Jewish architects between the wars, and they brought it with them when they came to Israel). Tel Aviv has a genuinely cosmopolitan feel; with Jewish influences from all over the world (including in latter years Russian and Ethiopian). Outside the city, you can visit the desert resort of Eilat or check out some beautiful mountains.

CONCLUSION

So Sea, Beach, Mountains or Desert. It seems you could really not desire for anything more, or so say thousands of tourists who flock there every year. It is no wonder that more and more airlines are heading towards this destination. At www.paylessflights.com we have all the best fare deals.
