Carry-on rules for US Airways Express
Not sure if you’re on a US Airways Express flight? Please check your confirmation. If you're on a flight operated by Air Wisconsin, Colgan, Piedmont, PSA or Trans States, you’re allowed to carry on 2 items.
- 1 personal item (such as a purse or laptop) in the cabin and;
- 1 small carry-on bag. Your carry-on bag will be tagged, placed in the cargo bin and returned plane-side or in the jetway when you arrive.

Travel to/from Brazil max weight is 70lbs(32kg) per bag.

US Airways now charges customers who pay for checked bags at the airport an additional $5 service fee (effective July 9, 2009). Passengers who pay for checked bags when checking in online, are exempt from the $5 fee. If you have more than 2 checked bags per person, you must check those at the airport. Also, if your bag is overweight or oversize, additional fees will apply.
The first and second checked bag fee does not apply to:
- All Dividend Miles Preferred members (Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Chairman's Preferred)
- Confirmed first class and envoy passengers at time of check-in (51-70 lb/23-32 kg bag free of charge unless traveling from the following European destinations: MAN, LGW, GLA, LIS, MXP, ARN, BRU, LHR, SNN, DUB)
- Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members
- Passengers traveling to/from Europe or to/from Asia
- Active military personnel with ID (luggage up to 99 lb/45 kg free of charge)
- Unaccompanied minors
- Passengers checking personal assistive devices

Oversize/overweight bags
Fees for overweight and oversize bag must be paid  at the airport.
- $50 extra for bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs (23-32 kg) if you're in Coach or Economy
- $100 extra for bags that weigh between 71- 100 lbs (32-45 kg)
- $100 extra for bags larger than 62 in/157 cm (we will not accept bags over 80 in/203 cm)
- If you're traveling to/from Brazil, you're allowed 2 checked bags up to 70 lbs (32 kg) free of charge

Children information

Traveling with infants
US Airways defines an infant as a child less than 2 years (24 months) of age. Infants less than 2 years of age must be accompanied on all flights and in the same compartment with an adult at least 18 years of age. We recommend that you travel with a birth certificate for children between the ages of 1 and 2. If you’re traveling with an infant, you can travel with the child on your lap, or reserve a seat.

Lap children: On flights within the U.S., US Airways will accept one lap child without charge when traveling with a paying ticketed passenger age 18 or older. On International flights, lap children may have to pay 10 percent of the adult fare and any surcharges, may require a paper ticket and are subject to international taxes. Unaccompanied minors may only travel with a lap child if it is their own child.

Reserved seating: If you want your infant to travel in his or her own seat, you must buy a ticket. Also, you must provide a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Child Restraint System (CRS).

Infant baggage
If you're paying 10% of the adult fare for an infant to fly on an international flight, you’re allowed:
-1 checked bag (up to 45 in/114 cm and 50 lbs/23 kg)
-1 fully collapsible stroller or 1 child restraint device or car seat
Otherwise, first and second checked bag fees still apply.

Acceptable car seats:
- Manufactured between January 1, 1981 and February 1985 must bear the label: "This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards."
- Manufactured after February 26, 1985 must bear two labels, stating: "This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards;" and "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft," in red letters.
- Manufactured outside of the U.S. must bear a label of approval of a foreign government or a label showing the seat was manufactured under the standards of the United Nations.

Unacceptable restraint systems:
- Unlabeled child safety seats or safety seats manufactured before January 1981.
- Vest and harness type child restraints or belly belts.
- Booster-type child restraint systems cannot be used during taxi, takeoff or landing.

Pets

Pets in the cabin
- 1 small domestic dog, cat or bird per passenger is accepted in the passenger cabin for a $100 fee each way.
- Pets in cabin count toward the carry-on baggage allowance. Pets must remain inside their approved container under the seat directly in front of you.
- Carry-on pets are not allowed on transatlantic flights or flights to/from Brazil, Tel Aviv, Barbados and Hawaii.
- Only dogs and cats are allowed to/from Mexico and Costa Rica. Call 800-428-4322 for additional requirements for international travel.
- If you are traveling to an international destination, there may be restrictions. Restrictions vary by destination, and customers should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate at least four weeks before the trip. For travel to Hawaii, customers should contact the Hawaii Animal Quarantine Branch directly for quarantine requirements.

Approved carriers
US Airways accepts hard-sided carriers up to 17 inches long x 16 inches wide x 8 inches tall and soft-sided carriers up to 17 inches long X 16 inches wide X 10 inches tall. On US Airways Express flights, pet carriers must not be more than 15 inches long x 17 inches wide x 8 inches tall on CRJ aircraft, more than 16 inches long x 17 inches wide x 8 inches tall on DH3 aircraft or more than 15 inches long x 14 inches wide x 8 inches tall on BH1 aircraft.
1. Carriers must be leak-proof and escape-proof.
2. Carriers must be ventilated on at least 2 sides, but not allow any part of the animal to protrude outside of the container.
3. Carriers must provide room for the animal to stand up and turn around.
4. Carriers can be made of metal, wood or hard plastic/composite. Exceptions are made for soft-sided containers made specifically for pet carriage.

Pets in cargo compartment
US Airways does not accept any animals in its cargo compartments.
Exception cities
US Airways accepts dogs, domestic cats and birds as checked baggage on nonstop US Airways Shuttle flights in the BOS/DCA/LGA markets only. Connections are not permitted. The customer must travel on the same flight. Customers should advise US Airways when they wish to transport a pet as checked baggage on a US Airways Shuttle flight.
Flights to Hawaii
Hawaii is a rabies-free state. If you're traveling to Hawaii with a service animal, emotional support animal or psychiatric service animal, you must have a health certificate issued within 14 days prior to travel. You must also contact the Hawaii Department of Agriculture to get a Neighborhood Island Permit before leaving the mainland if you're traveling to Maui, Kauai or the Big Island.

US Airways will only permit service animals, emotional support animals and psychiatric animals in the cabin for travel to/from Hawaii.
